MASTER JOINERS AWARDS 2015
The Owners have two children and wanted their kitchen to be the heart of their home. Their wish list included; an open space with plenty of storage, better connection to the adjacent rooms, while still maintaining a French provincial theme - in keeping with the rest of the house.
Raw Silk Ivory granite bench-tops feature, while the rich Blackwood double bull-nosed Island with resin finish, is a stand out. The island includes ample storage, with the advantage of concealed cabinets and drawers at either end, as well as drawers within the island plinth. Both the granite bench-tops and the Blackwood island incorporate character detailing to the 60mm thick surfaces. The solid timber cabinetry is Red Beech Stile rail.
Resene Double Spanish White was used on the cabinetry, in a wash finish, to create an old world character feel. Many samples were trialed to perfect this distressed wash effect and achieve the old world look the client was after. This finish carries through to the colonial style cornices of the double ended shelving unit, and the integrated refrigerator/freezer cabinet doors, and above the oven. Reliable Blum hardware has been used throughout for increased functionality and durability. The materials used complement and contrast one another to create the French country aesthetic the client desired. The continuity between the kitchen and the rest of the home has been achieved. The light filled space is not just super functional, it's an open, bright, social hub within their home.
